Around here, the quota for play is professionally higher than the quota for, well, not-play. Keeping a sense of humor about most everything makes even the most menial and tedious tasks pretty bearable.

So. We made a t-shirt. A while ago, actually. But! Now you can purchase them! Because, like us, you work at an office. Sometimes you do stuff, but at other times you do nothing. You don’t hate your job. You don’t love it, either. But some days being at work feels exactly like having your boss (or despised co-worker) standing behind you with a gun to your head. Right?

Right?

Bulletin: The Process is the Product, part 3

Jesse Groves frames Gregory Alan Isakov at Brooks Institute in Ventura California, June 2010.

It has been a great process working with so many artists, both musicians and photographers to prepare for an exhibition of my music photography. The exhibit opens this week with under the direction of Jesse Groves, the gallery director at Brooks Institute.

Jesse’s knowledge and taste in music is a cut above, and his sensibilities as a photographer far eclipse mine. With his direction and planning, this exhibit of music portraiture is in the best hands I can imagine. Like with all things, the nuances addressed and attention paid to both craft and concept can be a long list. Jesse has delivered on all accounts to this work, and shared his process in countless phone calls over the last 2 months. The results should prove to be a fine collection of portraits that share a glimpse into today’s musical landscape.

Preparing for this exhibit has also been an exercise in translation from the visual to verbal. I have not seen the finished prints yet, and won’t until I arrive in California the day the show hangs. The only understanding I have of these images and how they will be framed and displayed has come via words spoken in phone calls. (And the occasional iPhone image of matte cuts to establish margins and proportions.) Phone calls with Jesse and the show’s printer, Terrance Reimer have exercised our collective vocabularies to explain photography; to attempt to communicate objects whose essence does not exist in words we speak.

My understanding of these photographs will be put back to their native language, when I travel west to see them for myself this week. The exhibit opens June 10, and is on display until August 5th, at the Visions Gallery, Ventura CA, USA.

Bulletin: The Process is Product, part 2

Annie Cohen works to sweeten recordings of musician interviews and their music that will accompany a photography exhibition of my work this summer in Ventura California.

I am finishing the work for a summer exhibit of portrait photography. It’s involved the gracious lending of talents by several people, and I am fascinated by the countless nuances in craft that any facet of creation requires. I spent an hour with Annie Cohen this evening. (Annie is part of the elite legion I pay to be friends with at the Donnybook Writing Academy.) Annie is sweetening the audio from a variety of first person interviews with the subjects that will appear in the exhibit. She defiantly had the hardware to make short work of the music and voices of the musicians who will be on display. What is most interesting to me though, is not tools but their operators.

The methods and aesthetics Annie applied to average-at-best audio recordings was a blast to watch. The audio is recorded phone conversations between musicians, and the luminous Wendi Walker. (Annie said Wendi can make a tree stump open up and talk.) All the musicians who were available all seemed to be in a tour bus on some interstate in the continental U.S. with marginal cell reception, and the sound quality while entirely acceptable, was made exponentially better by Annie’s ears and hands.

The nearly subconscious techniques Annie employed were made fast, and would have been made faster if not for all of my questions. Compressors, limiters, noise reduction filters and level adjustments are all good things to use. But how these tools are used are a treat for me to witness and attempt to understand. If the devil is in the details, and devil is a fascinating fellow to know.

These audio recordings and music will be included in a photography exhibit curated by Jesse Groves at the Visions Gallery, Brooks Institute of Photography, Ventura California June 10 – August 5, 2010.

A peek into the wizard’s workshop. Hannah and Alicia at West Coast Imaging trimmed and finished my prints for an exhibition this summer of music photography. Photo & printing by: The Terrance Reimer Master Printer, West Coast Imaging.

I have always been as interested in the process of any work as much as the finished result. Maybe it’s the story I value as much as the thing it ends up being. I like the good and hard work of the creation – the building of the cabin, the experience of photographing people and places, the mixing of the margarita – the act of making is more meaningful and memorable to me than the finished results in many cases.

For this reason, I have been extremely intrigued by the craft and expertise it takes by devoted craftsman like Terrance Reimer to make something good into something great. I have never been to Terrance’s print house, West Coast Imaging, in Oakhurst, CA. I’ve never seen his ‘Black Pixel Magic’ in action. Terrance is a master printer whose years experiencing the world, using a camera, the darkroom, and printers and paper, make for a great example of how the process is as much an art as what is framed on the wall at the end of the day.

Perhaps all labor is art. I asked TR to send me some photos, so I could in some way witness this toil, this testing, this reprinting, the printer head-cleaning – the art. These photos will be included in a photography exhibit curated by Jesse Groves at the Visions Gallery, Brooks Institute of Photography, Ventura California June 10 – August 5, 2010.

"Art is man’s expression of his joy in labor. – Henry A. Kissinger

I am going to go and print some of my portraiture work big and hang it on a wall at Brooks Institute’s Visions Gallery in Ventura California. This show is being produced by my friend, scholar, and gentlemen, Jesse Groves.

I’ve edited a collection from images at lookat.toddroeth.com. The printing is being handled by the Mega Master Printer Terrance Reimer at West Coast Imaging.

I’ve worked to capture in still (and silent) photography some of the musicians whose work – and way of working and living I admire. These images aim to show these artists outside of their music, and in a way that most people don’t get to encounter.

My comrade Sean Porter is working to help me create a mobile phone interface so those who visit the exhibit can experience these portraits and then listen to their music while in front of the photograph. I’ve always believed that photography is a language. So too is music. I want my vision of these people to be shared, compared and perhaps contrasted to viewer’s understanding of the subject’s music.

They say seeing is believing; hearing is feeling. If you’re in Ventura this summer, come take a look and listen. June 10 – August 5th, The Visions Gallery, Ventura CA, USA.

Merry Swankster is a mostly music-themed blog written by a handful of snarky, honest authors who do well to keep the sugar coated silver lining off their reviews and commentary.
Bulletin: The Knew - Album Photography & Design

The Knew is a great band from right here in our town of Denver, and we at Dayjob are big fans. The band reached out this snowy winter to ask if we could put a face to their sound and spirit and design the artwork for their first full-length album – Pulpería.

When explaining the concept, The Knew’s Tyler Breuer explained the idea for album this way:

"More than just a bodega, a pulpería represents where good people get together to joke around when things at home, work or wherever aren’t going so well… it becomes like a community center that serves as a temporary break place – harnessing good feelings (because you are taking a break from work and relaxing) and acting as a brief escape from serious shit/problems.

Thus it allows people to let their guard down and act silly. It’s kind of like a watering hole in that sense, but it isn’t always necessarily based around drinking. I think the four members of TK kind of serve as a pulperia for many people – we are a good time (mostly) all the time and we act as a gathering place to rock out, despite what is going on elsewhere. Check your pretension at the door, but be careful and remember that a pulperia isn’t a frat house or a forum for idiots – what is discussed at a pulperia might be delivered in a joking manner, but many of the issues might be significant to your values – things that affect you on a daily basis that you might want to bounce off your cohorts and discuss. It actually can be directly related to many of our songs."

After getting their full license to run with this idea, I was fortunate enough to have to opportunity to employ personal photographs of my own good friends and good times into the album by incorporating almost 20 photographs of dogs, fireworks, snow forts, hot tubs, motorbikes, pretty girls, coonskin caps, cowgirl boots, arm wrestling, bicycles, general ruckus to create a visual translation of the band’s sound and character.

Like most designers, when I am able to work for something/one I believe in, and be able to incorporate things and people I love into the narrative, it is a rare and priceless form of compensation for the work. (And to get paid, yes that is part of the equation. But I am lucky when that is that last on the list of benefits.)

Learn and listen to a little more of the Knew at this music review.

*My favorite track on the new album might be Picnic. Check out Eryc Eyl’s story and listen to it.

Grandma Faye’s Front Porch.

I’ve started a new project and I am committing to at least 100 images with a Fuji Instax 210 camera I picked up. In short, these big bubbly clunkers are Fuji’s counterpoint to Polariod cameras. The material and texture of the prints are a little different, but in lieu of the dearly departed Polaroid (the 600 was my most recent) this thing does the trick.

I am becoming increasingly aware of my time and how I spend it, what I see, and who I spend it with – and without. I am also defining for my own terms how a single still image can, at the same time, be pure truth, and also build biographical myths about one’s life. The medium of instant film gives me a way to celebrate my time with good people and manifest memories for myself – concurrently truthful ones and mythical ones.

Here’s to at least 100 good ones. Check them out: toddroeth.com/instax/. More soon I hope.

Bulletin: Thoughts on Portrait Photography

Danielle Ate The Sandwich – Feb. 7, 2010.

There are some service occupations which involve little exchange. Some, like say, garbage removal, or lawn services are a one-way act. The only reaction on the part of the customer is paying the bill. Photography – portrait photography – is not one of them.

Whether it be high school yearbook portraits, baby portraits, hell, even passport and mug shot photos, there is a certain exchange between photographer and subject that is required to achieve any level of sincerity or depth, or at the very least, acknowledgment, in a portrait.

Maybe because we are all so attuned to the vast subtleties of human expression, some conversation, some interaction, is required if a portrait is going to qualify by any measure of merit. Humans interact. Be with each other, face to face, or with a two dimensional image. Good portraits have to engage the future-perfect viewer. People in portraits don’t need to look ‘you’ (future-perfect viewer) the in the eye. But it helps. Just like with the real person that the portrait represents; people are interested when they are engaged. Be it with a person, of portrait of them.

More on this notion is here.

Poster design by Tad Wagner

My friend Greg Lawler is a mind numbingly prolific and diversely talented guy. So I wasn’t completely surprised that he did what many people like myself thought about doing in the wake of the January 13, 2010 earthquake in Haiti: he put a plan into action to do what he can to help.

Greg and I met when I taught at Brooks Institute of Photography, and he keeps company with a wide range of internationally accomplished photographers, many of whom donated some top shelf images to this project. All proceeds over $10 per print (to cover S&H) will be split 50/50 between the American Red Cross and Direct Relief International.

If you like good photography and are able to make an investment of any size for good art and a better cause, check out Prints For Haiti.

The 10th Annual UMS is just around the corner; an event of exponential talent and luster, and we here at Dayjob are delighted to lead the creative direction again this year: logo, style guide, and branding directives. We are, also, absolutely in charge of the website, which we’ve gladly powered through Gigbot Pro.

Staggering popularity has led the gracious organizers of the UMS to begin ticket sales early. You can’t afford to wait on this purchase! Get your tickets!

Bulletin: Give Me -

The sketch board and editing process for a current project inspired the image selection and usage for a new series of personal work. The words, from Sean Porter; who said to me last week “What do you have to feel bad for? You own your own business, you have pretty friends and you take photos of rock stars…” He probably said some other things to try to cheer me up and rouse me at the same time. But the point he made stuck with me.

These images aren’t autobiographical – or at least not literal in the personal sense. I began to think about the luxury of being able to complain, to have the time and cognition to be so aware of all the things and people so many of us have – and then still yearn for something more, newer, different. Let’s face it, if you are reading this, you have a computer to read it, a job that does not require manual labor, and the time to click on this post. Feel free to feel unsatisfied, but it can’t be that bad. The recent loss of a old friend and the radio news reports the current devastation in Haiti certainly helped crystallize my thoughts.

This project is not cynical nor meant to be a guilt-trip necessarily. It is a wry attempt at a reminder to stay honest. These images are a reminder that we have many good things and people, and while I should be critical, of myself and my tendencies, humility and humor applied to self analysis can be an embarrassingly good thing.

See more of the images »

Bulletin: A Soundtrack for 2009

Silkscreened CDs by the fine folks at 5inch

I finished my yearly Soundtrack. Each year (Here was 2008’s.) I compile my highest rated iTunes plays, and favorite new musicians or songs that have had the biggest impact on me; songs that I want to share with important people that are often far away.

Music is big part of my life; maybe because I interpret the world best through visual means, and music is the antithesis; it is invisible. I spend much of my time making music and musicians into something I can see, and therefore better understand for myself. Music is exhilarating to me because it is stimuli that is foreign to my own abilities. My lot in life is to communicate idea and emotion visually. When that same energy comes through music, I sometimes go into overdrive making visual associations and memories. These songs gave some of the best this year.

If you like these musicians – then go buy their music. Better yet, go to a show and buy their music right from them. And a tank top too, if they sell them.

The New York Times called Bending Heaven “the rarest of debut collections: grounded but thoughtful, learned without being pretentious . . . . feels like the work of a writer who has a lot more to say.”

Portfolio: Merry Swankster

Merry Swankster is a mostly music-themed blog written by a handful of snarky, honest authors who do well to keep the sugar coated silver lining off their reviews and commentary. Incorporating things like numerology into their work, the folks at Merry Swankster have a lot of respectable nerve to come out and say the things about music that demand to be heard but so often are neglected to be said.

Cincinnati Bell contacted us to help them add some dynamic information to their otherwise corporate evolve Business Solutions web site. After consulting with them to determine what they needed, we produced a variety of flash graphics for the homepage and each product page to help catch their customers’ eyes.

Continuing our relationship with Cincinnati Bell, we just finished producing and creating a short product trailer video that outlines evolve Business Solutions’ services. The video was placed on the web site for customer use and was also given to the evolve Sales Team to use as a marketing tool when pitching to clients.

We are currently in the middle of finishing up the next step in our project with evolve Business Solutions. This includes extending the trailer into various chapters, going into further depth about each service outlined in the trailer. Be sure to come back and check it out!

Portfolio: www.theums.com

With the Underground Music Showcase going into it’s ninth year, Dayjob once again played a leading role. This year, the festival was even bigger and better with over 200 bands, 20 venues, and four days of music. So of course that required more time and effort. We proudly poured our blood, sweat and tears into every aspect of the festival.

Like last year, we created a website for musicians, music lovers, and even voluteers and staff to keep updated on UMS news. The site got the buzz and excitement going for everything and lead up to a blowout event!

Additionally, Dayjob continued the role of Art Director and created everything from the festival identity to buttons that attendees and volunteers could wear. This year we also had the privilege of working with a local artist, Gary Lee Bomar, who provided very beautiful line art, perfect for the identity of the festival. Some other items we designed included all advertising material, signage, posters, event and volunteer T-Shirts, and the festival guide cover art.

Of course, we couldn’t leave Gigbot out this year either. Helping sponsor the event, Gigbot brought back in full action its photobooth capturing the great faces and priceless moments of the festival. Check it out!

Portfolio: www.townoffrisco.com

The town of Frisco, Colorado called on Dayjob to help them extend their brand to an online presence for both their citizens and their visitors.

To enhance the stay of their visitors and draw in potential visitors, Frisco needed a tourism site complete with news, history, and a trip planner. We built a brand new site for them from ground up with all the features and photos a tourist could ask for.

We were also lucky to work with a great local artist, Todd Powell. Todd gave us some great local shots that really reflect the essence of the town and bring visitors right to the “main street to the Rockies.”

Frisco is an amazing and fun city, so keeping the site up to date with all the latest events and attractions might be tough. To help the city employees keep track of it all, we also customized the content management system so the site could be easily managed.

The town of Frisco, Colorado called on Dayjob to help them extend their brand to an online presence for both their citizens and their visitors.

We revamped their government site to mirror the new tourism site we created and included everything that their government employees and residents would need. From news to forms and permits to even a place to pay the water bill, the site has it all.

The Wavehouse is a quintessential So. Cal. experience. It’s located ocean-side with great restaurant, athletic club, crazy wave pool, and and great music too.

Dayjob put ‘California Dreamin’ on repeat and built a website with Marquee to promote their music events and sell their tickets too.

Full Disclosure: Sean nor Todd have ever rode in the wave pool. But per Todd’s suggestion, Sean did take a bath. It was the closest thing they had. And having Sean clean made everyone a little happier around the shop.

Portfolio: Denver Botanic Gardens Summer Concert Series 2008

The 2008 Denver Botanic Gardens Summer Concert Series hosted another great season of top shelf acts at their beautiful outdoor amphitheater surrounded by immaculately groomed gardens. Spending a summer evening there truly defines a ‘mid-summer’s night’s dream".

And this year again, Dayjob provided the design services to market the concert series. In both Web and print, we adopted and extended the Garden’s fresh new identity. In addition, our services were expanded this year to provide the complete ticketing solution, and it proved to be a great way to showcase Marquee’s ability to provide a set of promotion, management, and ticketing tools for a seamless experience for the Denver Botanic Garden’s event staff and affiliates.

Portfolio: Tourism British Columbia

Dayjob goes international. We teamed up with Backpacker Magazine and Tourism British Columbia to develop an online promotional campaign to showcase some of the natural and civilized beauty found on the rugged land of our neighbors to the north.

The ad campaign corresponded with a sweepstakes micro-site complete with interactive locator map, mini photo galleries and the ability to send a digital postcard of each of the scenic destinations to help proliferate the message.

Dayjob edited and produced over 100 beautiful images of the region during the process to create this project. While we are no strangers behind a camera, and are always eager to provide our own photography services, we were happy with the images made available to us and think it’d sure be a nice place for someone to take us sometime.

We couldn’t take the photos for this project anyways. There was once an incident at the border between Todd, The Mounties, and trailer full of alpacas. He hasn’t gone back since, and won’t talk about it. Ever.

Portfolio: Monolith Music Festival 2008

The Monolith Music Festival was picked by Rolling Stone as one of the 10 Great Festivals to Cure the Summertime Blues. -It should have; the two day festival brought over 60 international, national and local bands to 5 stages at Denver’s landmark Red Rocks Amphitheatre this year.

Dayjob took care of how it was all communicated online and in print. We were responsible for the Art Direction and website design and development – including all VIP ticketing processing and fulfillment via Marquee.

The nine month campaign resulted in over 50 print and web advertisements in local and national media, complete visual identity, the design and production of a broad print collateral package that kept our shop buzzing throughout the spring and summer months, including:

• Festival Posters Series
• Festival Program
• Official Festival Map and Informational Graphics
• Festival Music Sampler CD Disc and Package Art
• VIP and Artists Credentials
• Parking Passes
• Event Signage
• Apparel Artwork
• Promotional Flyers and Cards
• Digital Marquees
• CD Stickers for Regional In-Store Promotion of Festival Artists

However, the most exciting pieces of Dayjob-delivered-goodness was the cool integration between the Monolith Website and Gigbot. All the social aspects of the event were handled by Gigbot, with a custom festival section for Monolith and the ability to select individual performances at the festival and create custom schedules.

Cooler still, was the attendance and comment feedback displayed on the Monolith site itself, allowing visitors to quickly see how many fellow festival goers were planning to attend the many performances and to see the comments made on each band.

Resident DJs Boyhollow and Tyler “Danger” Jacobson host these weekly excursions in downtown Denver’s La Rumba and serve as house DJs, MCs, and as curators to great parties, which have hosted a veritable “Who’s Who” of notable and legendary guest DJs.

The giant Johnny Cash mural on the side of the establishment was a the tell tale sign. Dayjob and Bender’s Tavern hooked up to build the establishment’s website, using Dayjob’s music promotion and ticketing system, Marquee.

Bender’s hosts some of Denver’s best honky-tonk’n, rock-a-billy, and barn-burning music you’ll find in the Mile High city. True, it took years of field experience for us at Dayjob to gain the knowledge of pedal steel guitars, 24 oz. cans of sub-premium beer, corn whiskey, dark blue denim, and black leather needed to pull off this feat. But during that effort, we were able to pull off the launch of the site, complete with Marquee features – automated event calendar, show and artist detail pages, as well as news blogs, music players and venue detail information.

Portfolio: Denver Post Underground Music Showcase 2008

The Denver Post Underground Music Showcase in it’s eight year, has established itself as Colorado’s premier event to showcase local musicians, comedians and performers.

For 2008, we at Dayjob gladly contributed, and got our calloused hands on about everything you’d see or read regarding this two day event. Dayjob did what it does best, and produced a fully updatable website for the event. A good thing too. When you have a bunch of dedicated music lovers organizing 18 venues and damn near 100 bands and comedians you need a flexible website where information can be easily updated. (Patience is good to have too. So are milkshakes. But especially patience.)

Additionally, Dayjob stepped up the role of Art Director and created the festival identity, including all advertising material, signage, posters, event T-Shirts, and festival guide.

Additionally, Gigbot got one of it’s inaugural moments in the spotlight as the DPUMS Presenting Sponsor. To help with the responsibilities as a host, Gigbot started it’s very popular Photobooth to capture some of the faces who attend the great shows through the weekend. Check them out. …We think you’ll agree there are some handsome people in Denver.

Read more about this earnest event on a great blog, I am Fuel, Your are Friends

Portfolio: Denver Botanic Gardens Summer Concert Series

One of the musical highlights of the summer in the fair city of Denver is the Denver Botanic Gardens Summer Concert Series. This year, Dayjob took care of all DBG marketing needs to promote the popular series of thirteen concerts by branding the entire event – designing and building the website, designing and printing the direct mailings, concert programs, and print advertisements in the local and regional markets.

The concerts were first made avaible to members of the organization, before general public sales were offered. Within the first week, seven of the thirteen shows sold out, and only four had tickets remaining when they were released to non-members.

Portfolio: Belly Up

In Solana Beach, San Diego, Belly Up called on Dayjob to assist in upgrading their website. The venue hosts some of the best talent to roll through town, and also boasts a tasty restaraunt while capturing all the great atmoshphere So. Cal. is “famous” for.

As another Marquee customer, we rebuilt the site from the ground up to allow our colleagues there to cumulate Belly Up’s own database of artists with their associated photos and sample songs. They now can easily manage the events calender of shows, promote and sell tickets, track sales, and still have enough pixels left over to showcase their great amenities and ambiance.

Portfolio: Belly Up Aspen

The place to go in Aspen, Colorado to watch live music is Belly Up Aspen. And now, thanks to our new music promotion tool, Marquee, you can find the scheduled acts, see and hear the bands, learn about the venue, and buy tickets. But we take it one step further; once you buy your tickets, you can get them emailed right to you from the comfort of your cozy chalet, while you sip cognac and surf the internet on a bearskin rug following a day of great skiing.

Or if you are like us, you can hit the site on some poached wireless network from your laptop in the back of your truck in the free parking lot out at the ski slopes. It is hard to type with your mittens on though, and my breath always freezes on the computer screen. And, then I have to use my ski pass to scrape the frost of the screen…. um, well – either way, we think the site is pretty cool.

We moved quickly, from concept to delivery in less than two months, developing a highly-scalable site that could endure the legions of March Madness fans who learned about the site during on-air announcements.

Portfolio: Anthony Doerr

Anthony Doerr is a native from the great state of Ohio.
Anthony Doerr is the Writer-in-Residence for the State of Idaho where he now lives with wife and children.
Anthony Doerr is brilliant.
(Those three declarative sentences are our ode to the written word, in honor of Tony.)

Anthony’s work has won him critical acclaim in the States and abroad. He is author of three award-winning books and countless articles for The Morning News and The Boston Globe.

In order to visualize the essense of his writing style and sensibilities, we collaborated with Mr. Doerr and another Ohio artist, Beth Nash, to craft eight custom illustrations with footnotes written by Anthony for his website.

Portfolio: The Gothic Theatre

One of the landmarks in Denver, The Gothic Theatre is a restored Art Deco theatre that has played host to countless fist-pumping guitar solos, elbow-jiving-jam-bands, and shoe-gazing indie rockers.

This 1,000 seat venue routinely hosts a full schedule of national artists of varying genres. Dayjob delivered its very own patent-pending promotion marketing tool, Marquee to handle everything from artists’ info, image and audio files, calendars, album integration at Amazon.com and a hefty set of behind-the-scenes professional marketing tools, including ticket sale tracking, and custom genre-specifc email management and marketing. Dayjob put all this together with a look and feel to give the unique architecture of each venue some due props.

We at Dayjob can’t be rock-stars (…at least Sean can’t), but we know what it takes to fill the house for one.

After scoring the biggest product placement coup of 2006, what’s an upscale maternity and kidswear boutique to do?

Why, get Dayjob to completely rewrite their web site, of course.

Partnering with our friends at Bright Factory we ported the data from an old in-house ecommerce site and rewrote and redesigned from the ground up to give Belly’s inventory more light and breathing room.

Dayjob knows rock stars are long on mojo and short on cash. (Just like us! We like to empathize with our audience.) Disc Partners knows this too. They specialize in Compact Disc and DVD packaging, printing, burning, and replication for independent musicians looking to release an album.

To keep the D.I.Y. spirit alive, Dayjob teamed up with Discpartners to make a logo and help give them a look. May rock and roll never die.

Portfolio: Nobody in Particular Presents

Nobody in Particular Presents is Colorado’s biggest independent promoter for live music and entertainment events. Dayjob clocked in to develop, design, and implement an industrial strength site to handle the organization, explanation, and promotion of all shows for NIPP’s many venues and their events.

Location photography, a thick spread of Dayjob design, and a custom content management system makes the NIPP site the very model of a modern web application. The NIPP team can quickly blog, edit band bios, import discographies live from Amazon using web services, and send out targeted marketing emails with just a few clicks. Colorado music fans can listen to the songs from a simple Flash player, and subscribe to upcoming shows via RSS so they never miss that next Johnny Cash show.

Portfolio: Mike Doughty

Mike Doughty, former front man for the band Soul Coughing, needed help launching his acclaimed solo career. Already a pioneer in promoting himself online, Mike needed a site to match his music: witty, comical, and spontaneous. Dayjob delivered with a site that gave Mike a microphone to the world. A blog, calendar and news page all easily editable from a content management system we developed especially for bands callled Playola.

Artwork and illustration was made to fit the personality and persona of Mike, and the photography and design for this project extended to the CD packaging for the Reissued Albums, Skittish & Rockity Roll, available after Mike’s Major Record Deal with ATO Records (one of the founders being some guy, Dave Matthews?)
